The Portland Winterhawks played their third preseason game in as many days Sunday, falling 2-1 in a road contest against the Everett Silvertips.
After a scoreless first period, the Silvertips took a 2-0 lead in the second on goals by Dawson Leedahl and Cole MacDonald.
The Hawks got one back 11:32 into the third when Oliver Bjorkstrand scored to cut the deficit to 2-1. Portland dominated play through the third period as they outshot Everett 14-3, but the Silvertips hung on for the win.
Both teams split the goaltending duties Sunday. Adin Hill got the start in net for Portland, stopping 11-13 shots. Brendan Burke played the second half of the game and stopped all seven Everett shots he faced.
Troy Tremblay started in goal for Everett, and stopped all 12 shots the Winterhawks took. Austin Lotz relieved him for the second half of the game, and stopped 18 of 19 shots, including 13 of 14 in the third period when the Hawks were carrying play.
The Hawks have two more preseason games to go: Friday, Sept. 7 against the Kootenay Ice and Saturday, Sept. 8 against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Both of those games will be in Kennewick, WA, both at 3 p.m. The team opens the regular season at home on Friday, September 21 at the Rose Garden against Seattle, on a night when they will raise their second straight Western Conference championship banner.
