In the final day of the Delta Hotels Preseason Classic, the Winterhawks suffered a 3-0 loss against the Silvertips.
The first period was highlighted by a Nick Cicek fight and a whole lot of back-and-forth action. Dante Giannuzzi looked sharp in his first Western Hockey League start, stopping all 14 shots he faced in the opening 30:26 of the game. Fifteen year old Lochlan Gordon would finish the game in net for the Winterhawks.
The ‘Tips would gain momentum heading into the second period, scoring their first of the night on the power play. Sean Richards burried his second goal of the preseason on a Wyatte Wylie shot that deflected off Gordon’s stick.
Late in the second period, the Silvertips had a handful of chances and cashed in with one second to play in the frame. Connor Dewar beat the scrum in the crease and stuffed it a few inches past the goal line.
Washington Capitals draft pick Riley Sutter would tack on one more goal in the third period to make it a 3-0 game, ultimately your final score.
Special teams play was a factor this weekend as the Winterhawks surrendered four power play goals on 18 chances.
