Johnson Signs WHL Standard Player Agreement with Portland

Portland, Ore. – The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, announced today that they have signed forward Nicholas Johnson to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

The Calgary, Alta. native puts pen to paper with Portland after playing over 60 games with the Edge School Prep program for the past three seasons.  Johnson averaged a goal-per-game (5G, 4A) in five games during the shortened 2020-21 season and he will play for the U18 program this year.

Most recently, Johnson attended the Winterhawks 2021 Neely Cup, participating as a member of Team Ludvig.  The 6-foot, 172-pound forward was impressive during the Hawks week-long camp, scoring six goals and helping Team Ludvig to the championship game.  Recognized as a two-way center with good vision and a willingness to compete hard, it’s safe to say Johnson will be a key piece of the Winterhawks future.
Johnson becomes the fifth 2005-born prospect to sign with the Hawks.
