The Portland Winterhawks will pay tribute to Portland’s original sports dynasty when they honor the Portland Buckaroos at Saturday’s game against the Tri-City Americans at the Memorial Coliseum. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Fans can come and pay tribute to the hockey juggernaut that won three Lester Patrick Cups during their 14 years of existence from 1960 – 1974. The Buckaroos won championships in 1961, 1965 and 1971 in the professional Western Hockey League. Among the former Buckaroos set to be in attendance Saturday are Jim Hay, Art Jones and Tom McVie.
The players will be honored on the ice prior to the game, then available for autographs and pictures during intermissions on the Memorial Coliseum concourse. There will also be Buckaroos memorabilia on display.
“There’s an entire generation of sports fans in Portland who grew up idolizing the Buckaroos,” said Portland Winterhawks President Doug Piper. “We’re incredibly proud to honor them again this season and give fans the opportunity to meet them and share their memories.”
