Joe Morrow Returning to Winterhawks

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Monday that they are returning defenseman Joe Morrow to the Winterhawks. Morrow had played in four preseason games with the Penguins, registering a goal and three assists for four points, tying him for the team lead among defensemen.

The Penguins drafted Morrow 23rd overall in the 2011 Draft after he posted 49 points in 60 games last season, followed by 20 points in 21 playoff games.

That leaves Ryan Johansen and Nino Niederreiter as the lone Hawks left with their NHL teams. The Blue Jackets announced that Johansen will be on the team’s opening day roster, while the Islanders have yet to announce their final roster. Both players can play up to nine regular season NHL games before the first year of their contract becomes guaranteed.
