Winterhawks Sign Defenseman Ryan Miley

The Portland Winterhawks have announced the signing of defenseman Ryan Miley.

Miley, a 2000-born defenseman from Brookings, South Dakota, was added to the Hawks’ protected list last fall. This season he played for the Sioux Falls Stampede U16 AAA, where he had 39 points, including 14 goals, in 50 games played.

“I first saw Ryan play last summer at the Legend Hockey Elite camp in South Dakota,” said Portland Winterhawks Vice President, General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston. “We decided to bring him to our training camp, where he had a strong showing. After following his progress this season in Sioux Falls, we’re excited to sign him and continue his development in Portland next season. With graduations on our defense this summer, Ryan will fill a key void. In the coming weeks, I also expect to add one additional young defenseman to that group.”

“It’s a tremendous honor and dream come true to join the Winterhawks organization,” said Miley.  “I’m very excited for the future and look forward to competing in such an elite league.”
