The Portland Winterhawks made one selection today in the CHL Import Draft, selecting left wing Samuel Fagemo with the 33rd overall pick in the first round.

The 17-year-old Fagemo played last season for Frolunda Hockey Club in Sweden, where he split time on both their U18 and U20 rosters. He compiled 18 goals and 39 points in 41 games across both levels. Fagemo also competed internationally for the Swedish Under-17 team at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge, where he helped lead the Swedes to a gold medal. Fagemo was one of the offensive leaders in the tournament, with his 7 points in 6 games tied for second in the tournament in scoring.

With Henri Jokiharju’s selection in the first round of the NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks last weekend, the Hawks were permitted to select a third European player in case Jokiharju does not return from the NHL.
