Winterhawks Honor Veterans During Military Salute Night

Saturday, November 11 was a special night for the Portland Winterhawks; they had a big win with the Tri-City Americans 5-2 in the Moda Center, it was also the annual Military Salute Night to honor active and retired members of the armed forces.

11-11 MemorialSwearIn_LPOf the over 9,000 fans in attendance, more than 1,000 represented all of the local branches of the military and their families courtesy of participating sponsors Security Signs of Oregon, Washman USA and City Center Parking.  Among the honors of the night, were Puck Drop participants; first a multiple medal winning Paralympian and former US Navy Serviceman, Will Groulx and joining him was Boeing Hometown Hero Marine Corp Staff Sergeant Daniel Court. A  memorial was also held for fallen Hillsboro Firefighter, Ryan Grimaldi.

The Winterhawks and local sponsors Security Signs of Portland, City Center Parking and Washman Car Washes annually work with the Salvation Army and the local chapter of the USO to distribute tickets to local military families to the game.  All families helped by this program live in Oregon or Southwest Washington. The USO (United Service Organizations) has served soldiers are their families – from deployment to rehabilitation and reintegration – since 1941.
