Winterhawks Congratulate Oliver David on Head Coaching Position with Dubuque

Portland Winterhawks assistant coach Oliver David has been named the new head coach of the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League.

David is coming off his first season as a member of the Winterhawks’ coaching staff, after he previously held the Associate Coach and Assistant General Manager position in Dubuque with the Fighting Saints. The Hawks won 40 games in David’s lone season as an assistant, and upset the B.C. Division Champion Prince George Cougars in the opening round of the playoffs. He goes back to an organization in Dubuque with whom he helped to a 108-61-2-9 record in his time there.

“We’re very excited for Oliver and the opportunity for him to become a head coach with a team like Dubuque,” said Winterhawks Vice President, General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston. “He’s shown through his hard work and dedication that he’s deserving of this opportunity, and we wish him the best of luck with the Fighting Saints.”

With David leaving the Winterhawks’ staff, Johnston will be looking to hire a replacement in the coming month to work alongside both himself and Winterhawks Associate Coach Kyle Gustafson.

The Hawks will return to action in September, for season tickets and multi-game packages visit Winterhawks.com or call 503-236-HAWK.
