Winterhawks Can’t Solve Hart in Spirited Affair

Portland Winterhawks (1) at Everett Silvertips (4)

Everett, WA – Tuesday, December 6th

The Winterhawks entered the night 9-1-0-0 against the U.S. Division but couldn’t get much by Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart, as the Hawks fell 4-1 to Everett on Wednesday evening.

The first period was an evenly contested frame, with both teams exchanging chances but neither squad able to score.

Everett (16-12-1-1) would eventually get on the board in the second, scoring 3:48 into the period. The Silvertips then extended their lead to two on the power play just under three minutes later. After Everett made it 3-0, Reece Newkirk and Gianna Fairbrother dropped the gloves in a spirited bout, one of two fights in the game.

With Everett up 4-0 late in the third, Reece Newkirk completely two-thirds of a “Gordie Howe hat-trick” by burying his first of his WHL career. Joachim Blichfeld and Brad Ginnell picked up assists on the goal. The game would end in a 4-1 final for Everett. Portland falls to 20-7-0-1 on the season.

The Hawks will be back at home at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Friday, December 8th. Tickets for the season are on sale here, and single game and group tickets now on sale.
