SASKATOON, SK – Seth Jones and the Portland Winterhawks take on Nathan MacKinnon and the Halifax Mooseheads on Day 2 of round robin action on Saturday at the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament in Saskatoon, SK. (5:00pm MT Sportsnet)

The CHL’s Championship s, which wraps up with the Championship game on Sunday, May 26th, features four teams – the host Saskatoon Blades, the OHL Champion London Knights, the WHL Champion Portland Winterhawks and the QMJHL Champion Halifax Mooseheads – who will battle for the storied Memorial Cup trophy.

The Winterhawks made it to the tournament having won the 2013 WHL Championship, defeating the Edmonton Oil Kings in six games.  The Hawks had lost the previous two WHL finals, but ensured that the third time would be the charm.  Portland, the CHL’s No. 2 ranked team, dominated the WHL during the regular season, winning a franchise record 57 games and posting 117 points.

The Mooseheads captured the QMJHL championship with a 4-1 best-of-seven series win over Baie-Comeau.  The CHL’s top ranked Club, the Mooseheads stormed through the QMJHL playoffs, losing just once en route to the title.

Saturday’s match-up will showcase the three top-rated prospects for the 2013 NHL draft with Portland defenceman Seth Jones, the No. 1 rated prospect, going up against Halifax’s Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin, ranked No. 2 and 3 respectively.

“They have a great team, and I think they only lost 11 games all year, so we know it will be a real challenge for us,” said Jones of the match-up against the Mooseheads.

“We think it will be a really good test,” said Winterhawks’ acting head coach Travis Green.  “I think they play a similar style as we do, so it will be an exciting game.”

The 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup opened on Friday night with the OHL Champion London Knights edging the host Saskatoon Blades 3-2.
