The Portland Winterhawks have several highly-rated players for the upcoming 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft, and fans can find out where they end up at one of the team’s draft parties at the two local Big Al’s locations.
The first round of the 2011 NHL Draft will be held Friday, June 24, at 4 p.m., and the team will host parties at both the Beaverton (14950 Southwest Barrows Road) and Vancouver (16615 Southeast 18th Street) Big Al’s locations.
The Beaverton party will be hosted by the radio play-by-play and analyst team of Andy Kemper and Todd Vrooman, while the Vancouver party will be hosted by radio analysts Dean “Scooter” Vrooman and John Kirby. Both parties will feature prize drawings, food and drink specials, and other exciting events as fans find out which teams select the Hawks’ players.
The Winterhawks could have several first round picks this season, as the NHL’s Central Scouting Bureau’s final rankings had Sven Bartschi at #7, Joe Morrow at #12 and Ty Rattie at #17 among all North American skaters. In addition, Tyler Wotherspoon was rated 40th and Pearce Eviston came in at #169.
After the first round on June 24, the draft will continue with the remaining six rounds the following day, Saturday, June 25.
Last year the Winterhawks tied a franchise record with eight players taken in the draft, including Ryan Johansen fourth overall to the Columbus Blue Jackets and Nino Niederreiter fifth overall to the New York Islanders.
