The Portland Winterhawks are opening their 2017-18 home schedule with the Pacific Office Automation Home Opener on Saturday, September 30th when they take-on the defending Western Hockey League Champion Seattle Thunderbirds. The Hawks will open their schedule the week before on the road, traveling up I-5 for a date with the Everett Silvertips on September 23rd.
The annual Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss, one of the highlights of every season, will be on Saturday, December 9, when the Hawks host the Everett Silvertips. Fans in attendance will be invited to throw stuffed animals onto the ice after the Hawks score their first goal, with the bears being collected and donated to local charities.
The Seattle Thunderbirds will also be back for the annual Toyota New Year’s Eve tilt between the two teams, kicking off a busy second half between the clubs. Ten of the 12 meetings between the two teams come after the holiday break, building upon the historic rivalry.
The longest road trip of the season will come at Thanksgiving, as the team embarks on a six-game trip from November 21-29. The Hawks will get their first look at Rogers Place, the newly built home of the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL, as well as the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings, on November 25. While the team is gone for the last half of November, they play 12 of their first 19 games of the season on home-ice. The six-game road trip to Alberta is the longest of the season, while the Hawks have two separate four-game home-stands.
The final schedule, including venues for the Winterhawks’ home games, as well as the complete time information, will be finalized later this summer after the Portland Trail Blazers’ schedule is released. The Hawks will also be releasing the full promotional schedule, including fan favorites such as Mascot Night, at this time.
Season tickets, 20 game, and 12 game plans for the 2017-18 season are on sale now. Group packages for both Opening Night as well as the Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss are also available now. Visit winterhawks.com or call 503-236-HAWK to make sure you catch all the action!
