Thank You Winterhawks Fans!

Ben Ludeman

The Portland Winterhawks organization wants to thank all of our incredible fans for another fantastic season of Winterhawks hockey!

We finished second in the Western Conference and registered 44 wins, our highest win total since the 2013-14 season. While every year it is our goal to be the last WHL team standing, we still view this season as a great success, and much of that success is owed to our fans.

For the sixth straight season, the Winterhawks were first among all American Western Hockey League teams in attendance, averaging over 6,000 fans a game. Because of you, Portland continues to be a one of the premier franchises in the Canadian Hockey League and is known for being one of the loudest buildings in North America.

We remember the incredible cheers from the 9,065 fans that witnessed our 6-2 win over Seattle at the Moda CenterĀ at our home-opener. And the 9,578 fans who lost their minds when John Ludvig scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal infront of a packed VMC. We also heard you on our New Year’s Eve Game at the Moda Center, and on the night of the incredible 1998 Memorial Cup Reunion and Hall of Fame Induction.

In the 12 games we faced off against our fierce rival, the Seattle Thunderbirds, we defended home ice, going 4-0-0-2 here in the Rose City, and went 8-1-1-2 overall against the T-Birds. We were also proud to have nine games of the “Battle with Seattle” televised on the CW this year.

Over 30,000 fans watched postseason hockey this year in Portland. Including an incredible Game 7 victory over Spokane, that will be remembered for years to come.

During the second-round of this years playoffs, the hockey world experienced a great tragedy when the Humboldt Broncos lost 16 members of their organization to a horrific bus accident in Saskatchewan, Canada.

When the hockey world mourned with the Humboldt Broncos, you stepped up and drove WAHA 50/50 sales to a new, one-day record of $20,705, half of which will be donated to the Humboldt Broncos and their families.

We as an organization could not succeed without the passion and support you bring to our home games, you show on social media, at our viewing parties, and all our events throughout the year.

We look forward to the 2018-19 season, and your continued passion, intensity and love of the Portland Winterhawks!
