Winterhawks To Give Fans the Jersey Off Their Backs
During the season finale on Sunday, March 18 against the Spokane Chiefs at the Moda Center, Portland Winterhawks players will give lucky fans the jerseys right off their backs!
The team is hosting the fourth annual “Jerseys off their Backs for Education” event, sponsored by The Oregon College Savings Plan. Every season, a one-of-a kind special jersey is worn by the players for this event, and following the game, lucky fans head onto the ice to receive the jersey directly from the player after the game.
Since its inception, “Jerseys of their Backs for Education” has raised more than $ 100,000 for the player education fund to assist Winterhawks players who pursue post-secondary education after their playing careers in the WHL are over.
“This promotion is a great way for fans to help a great cause, while having the rare chance to win a player’s game-worn jersey.” said Winterhawks President Doug Piper. “Not only is it a great way to win a unique team-used jersey, but helps the players who don’t go on to professional hockey get started on another career path.”
“We’re excited that Winterhawks fans have enjoyed this promotion over the years and it has been so successful at helping promote the Players’ Education Fund,” said Michael Parker, Executive Director of The Oregon College Savings Plan. “It helps spread the message that it’s never too late to pursue a post-secondary education and it is never too early to start saving for that education. One of the simplest ways is to start investing with The Oregon College Savings Plan.”
